The Fassa valley

The Fassa valley
The Fassa valley: or the true heart of the Dolomites

The Fassa valley is known as one of the most famous and historically sought-after tourist spots of Trentino: with its splendid Dolomite peaks and its green, uncontaminated woods, it is an ideal goal for tourists, whether for winter holidays among the snow or for summer ones where mountain huts and shelters, trekking and good cuisine bring us into contact with real nature. Geographically, the Fassa valley is in the extreme north-east of Trentino, confining with the Provinces of Bolzano (Alto Adige) and Belluno (Veneto). It can be reached from the south via the San Lugano Pass and Val di Fiemme, from the north through the Costalunga or Sella Passes, and from the east along the Pordoi, Fedaia and San Pellegrino Passes. It is crossed by the Avisio torrent which, after cutting through the Fiemme valley and the Cembra valley, flows into the Adige near Trento. The valley is completely immersed an Alpine landscape of extreme beauty and rarity, a candidate for listing among UNESCO’s “Human Heritage” sites in the near future.

Lovers of skiing have only to take their pick: 9 ski areas with over 200 kilometres of slopes divided into 86 stations with 115 slopes, 4 snowparks and 3 skitours (as well as the tour of the 4 passes). More than 40 kilometres are dedicated to lovers of cross-country skiing and there are numerous international events, Olympics and World Skiing Championships, that find their ideal surroundings in Val di Fassa and Val di Fiemme, with its structures, stations and teams perfectly organized for high level events.

In summer tourists and excursionists can find in the area around the Cima Bocche, the lakes of Lusia and the passes of Sella and San Pellegrino, trenches and fortifications recalling the First World War in the Dolomites.
A sea of colours extends before the observer’s eye, from the intense green of the woods and the flowering meadows to the deep blue of the Alpine streams and pools and the magic phenomenon of the "Enrosadira", which reddens the sunsets and creates effects of light that are unique in the world, transforming Fassa valley into an enchanted garden.
